Sensor fusion of GPS and Loran-C
نویسنده
چکیده
Although satellite navigation, mainly based on the U.S. GPS, plays an important role in positioning and navigation tasks and although there are efforts to establish new satellite-based navigation systems like the European Galileo, the reliability and availability of these systems cannot satisfy all requirements of today’s navigation. Therefore, the navigation system of the future will likely combine various systems that complement each other in an optimal way. As Loran-C is with respect to system characteristics, especially to the propagation behaviour of the carrier wave, very dissimilar to GPS, it is one of the favourable candidates to complement GPS in an integrated navigation receiver.

A Hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS Sensor Fusion with WLFP for Flying Robo-SAR's Navigation
In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...
متن کاملCommon-View LORAN-C for Precision Time and Frequency Transfer
In order for LORAN-C to serve as a viable backup to GPS for precision time and frequency transfer, a performance improvement of at least an order of magnitude is required. LORAN-C time recovery performance is limited to the microsecond level by seasonal ASF (additional secondary factor) effects. By employing common-view techniques long used in the GPS community, it may be possible to significan...

In 2001, the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center completed an evaluation of GPS vulnerabilities and the potential impacts to transportation systems in the United States. One of the recommendations of this study was for the operation of backup system(s) to GPS; Loran-C was identified as one possible backup system. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been leading a team consist...
